Why Is Your Baby Crying? Tips To Understand Your Baby

Today, I want to tell you about a book I’ve been using to understand what my baby needs. This book was recommended by my sister-in-law who has two beautiful girls. She used this book when the girls were babies. Based on how beautiful my nieces turned out (in a well behaving way as well as their looks), I can tell that the techniques my sister-in-law gained from the book worked really well. So I was delighted to know the secrets of what she did with her girls when I got the book.

The book is titled “Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby” by Tracy Hogg with Melinda Blau. Tracy is the main person who talks about babies. If she was in Australia, she would probably be called a midwife. She visits parents who have trouble handling their babies and help them out. The real stories from her experience are eye opening and what she did to solve the problems are very helpful to learn what to do with a baby as a parent.

As a parent of a new born myself, the most stressful time is when my baby crying. My stress increases sky rocket when I don’t know what to do to calm him down. Babies cannot talk the languages we talk yet. They use the ‘baby language’, which are cries and body languages. The book explains the baby languages so that parents can understand what their baby are saying. My sister-in-law and I particularly found the section that explains what baby cries mean very helpful. I now read what my baby is saying from his expression to meet his needs. If I didn’t know any of his language, I would feed him on every cry, which could cause more problems as the book explains.

Also, Tracy talks about how to take care of yourself (parents).
Instead of letting your baby control your life, she talks about how to take the balance by connecting with your baby. This is an important aspect because if you let your baby control your entire life, you will be overtired very quickly and soon get sick. If you get sick, who would look after your baby? Or worse your baby gets sick by picking up whatever disease you might have.

Many useful tips are summarized in tables so it’s easy to find information as you go. I also use Tracy’s example to take a log to understand what my baby’s needs are. (The log can be photocopied from the book to use straight away.) The log has been very useful and it’s definitely making my life easier.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a baby, who is about to have one, or who’s interested in stories of other parents and Tracy’s magic solutions.
