How A Lazy Woman Lives A Simple Living

The summer is approaching. Everything in my garden including weeds are growing fast. It’s amazing to see how incredible the power of plants is. They take every possible opportunities to grow. They reach out for the light, their roots go deep down the soil for moisture and nutrients, they don’t complain about the crappy weather, or tough location that they happen to be chosen by their owner, they just take what they can and make the most of it. It’s a simple attitude to live really, do the best and/or die. There is something I need to learn from those tiny green things.

I felt I needed more discipline while watching those greens today because I’ve been reluctant to look after my garden lately. There are clear sings of neglected garden, giving me the bitter feeling. Some are growing non stop, some others are not growing at all. Many of them require my help to thrive well. Capsicum buds are over crowded, carrots are under the thread of weeds shutting their light, onion patch has been disturbed by cat (oh no!!) I could have prevented all if I was working in the garden constantly. What’s the excuse? I cannot find a good one. Maybe because it’s getting hot and humid, maybe because my pregnant tummy is getting heavy and tiring me, maybe I was just lazy. None of the excuses seemed reasonable to leave the garden in this much chaos.

Oh well, what’s done is what’s done (in this case what’s not done is what’s not done). I have to deal with it. I shook my head and refreshed my mind. Ok, let’s think this way. I’m learning to accept how the nature works. Lushly weeds create nice hidden spots for insects that eat other garden pests. Cabbages with lots of worm-eaten-holes are not really upsetting to see, because that encourages wild birds to visit my garden, they clean up fruits that are fallen on the ground before they go too yukky as well as the cabbage worms, they entertain eyes of mine and my pets too.

Here is a shot I took in the backyard. Pigeons are visiting my yard to clean up leftover of hens food, mostly corn and sunflower seeds. You can see the corner of the coop at the back. I do clean up the leftover hen food everyday but there is always some missed. If I don’t have those regular wild bird visits, I would have lots more corns and sunflowers growing between the lawn. My Hens don’t seem to mind sharing their food. They love watching those visitors for their entertainment. As you can see, my cat loves watching them too. I watch all the critters through the window to make sure the cat doesn’t attack pigeons (she’s not a good hunter so not too worried), and mostly to entertain myself by this nature show.

Well, it’s time to work on the garden. This summer is going to be a productive one.
