How I Catch The Flow Of Life

This spring, I tried a new method called square foot gardening. The method attracted me because it claimed productive garden with less space, less work. I was initially not sure about the measuring unit (foot) since I’m more familiar with centimeter. But after reading the book, I thought it’s worth a try. I didn’t have all the materials to make a raised bed as the book suggested, or ingredients for the recommended soil mixture. So I used what I have in my garden, flat beds with clay soil.

It’s been only five weeks and my veggie patches are thriving. I check the garden to water in the early mornings while the sun is not harsh yet, and in the later evenings, I weed if I feel like it. It’s definitely easier method than conventional gardening. Now, I only have three small patches, but there is always something ready for dinner every night so far.

Looking back the past five weeks I’ve been very happy with my life, feeling healthy physically, mentally and emotionally. The relationships around me are good, private life is meaningful, commitments and responsibilities are under control. Everything seems so peaceful and easy and I enjoy it a lot lately. But today, I felt a kind of boredom in it. I enjoy this perfect atmosphere, but I felt that I want some challenges now. I must be feeling a bit lazy because everything was going very easy. It’s funny that I felt this way because I wasn’t particularly lazy. I’m still doing the same amount of workload everyday. Tasks I do each day haven’t changed. Maybe, I got used to what I do and I no longer feel the workload. I maybe finish my tasks almost automatically without consciously thinking about them.

So I decided to do something about my boredom. I have some ideas of what I want to do. I’ve been keeping notes when those ideas come up every now and then but none of them has been implemented yet. I usually leave the ideas for later, then they never happen.

This week, I’m going to act on those ideas. I’m going to do something as the idea comes up and when it comes up. I’m not going to leave the idea for later. I’m going to catch the wave when my idea comes up and let it all expand while it’s still hot. I’m going to pay attention to what I feel like doing in the present moment and act on it straight away.

One this I have to be careful is this, inspirational acts are different from being kind to myself. For an example if I have an idea of drinking a cup of coffee with a slice of cake, I would have done that if I’m just being kind to myself. It would result in tiredness and fear that I might be risking the health of baby in my tummy with high dosage of sugar and caffeine. Instead, I’d implement ideas that’s kind to my mind and body.

Right now, my idea is making videos and blog posts about my square foot gardening. I ignore all procrastinating thoughts and start it right now. I’ll see you again with my update.
