Do you love yourself in the mirror?

Most of us use mirrors everyday when washing face, brushing teeth, combing hair and getting make-up on etc. Your bathroom would be the most common place to look yourself in the mirror. Do you love the person you see in the mirror? Let me ask this another way,

When there is a mirror in a fruit shop, do you look yourself in the mirror?

It doesn’t have to be a fruit shop. My question is, when a mirror is there mainly for something other than looking at your face, for example, when it is a part of the shop decoration or tinted car windows just happen to reflect your face like a mirror, do you look yourself in that?

Most people want a positive self image. You might use a mirror in your bathroom when getting ready in the morning, but you might be hesitated or just ignore to use those ‘not in the bathroom mirrors’. Especially if you are wanting to… lose weight, get fit, obtain better health, or when you are desperate to improve your skill, career or financial situation. Looking at mirror is a daunting task when things are tough for you. It is understandable if you want to avoid whatever reflects your self image as much as you can.

A mirror shows your honest image. It can be difficult to receive the messages that come from it sometimes, but you are the only one who understands those messages truly, because after all, you know yourself better than anyone else.

My friend didn’t really look at herself in the mirror until her late 30’s. She said she wasn’t ready. When she started taking her baby steps to look into a mirror, she started revealing true herself little by little. It was a little bitty journey for sure, but now, each moment, each day is an opportunity for her self discovery to grow and learn.

7 little ways to love yourself in the mirror

Because being honest to yourself and seeing truth are not always easy, here are the little baby steps you can take. Loving yourself in the mirror is a very important step towards becoming a positive person.

  1. Discover your favorite smile in front of your bathroom mirror (use your fingers to lift your cheeks up if you can)
  2. Every time you look yourself in your bathroom mirror, make your favorite smile to yourself :)
  3. If you are not ready to use mirrors other than your bathroom yet, take a few photos of your favorite smile with digital camera, pick the best photo of the day and delete the rest. Keep taking the best smile of the day
  4. Place a small hand mirror on your desk or next to your phone in a angle that reflects your face
  5. Each time you notice about those desk / phone mirror, again, smile to yourself
  6. Surround yourself with positive minded people
  7. Do something you are passionate about, feel good about yourself by doing so, and you guessed it, smile :)
